I could almost taste those clams! Fortunately I will be returning to Brittany soon with my next tour group and might very well have to order some (with the Al dente pasta preferably.) Great article.

Merci beaucoup! It’s an even bigger compliment from a person who knows Brittany well.

o wow, I have never seen France, so I totally want to go there and eat what you have eaten (gorgeous photos also!)

France is (one of) the most touristed countries in the world, but if you don't go where everyone else goes, you can easily find beautiful, quiet and authentic places.

Claire--this was outstanding--one of the best travel essays I've ever read (and loved the photos.) I was there with you on that beach in Brittany--that's how transportive the writing was! Thank you!!!

I love galettes sarrasin and cider, but very unfortunately got food poisoning from clams in Brittany :(

So sorry to hear that. Did you catch the clams yourself?

Unfortunately, sometimes a dead one makes it into the bucket. But when you soak them, you can check whether each one is alive.

Not every restaurant is as careful, I imagine.

I didn’t catch them myself, which is a thing I definitely do not feel competent enough to attempt. But it just happens sometimes. Just some bad luck, no biggie!
